Anger is not something reserved for adults – children, too, need to learn how to deal constructively with this emotion. Scot Cannon offers real alternatives to hitting, throwing things, and slamming doors, through the use of mime, music, and comedy. He connects with his audience by sharing his own personal experiences to illustrate how hurtful words can be - emphasizing that “once you push, hit, or call someone a name, you can never take it back.” This interactive program stresses honesty, tolerance and communication as a means of defusing anger and encourages children to “Open the Door – Tell Someone What’s Wrong.” Scot provides children with positive ways to handle anger and uses student participation as an integral part of the performance. Grades K-6 | | Operas To Make You Laugh | Students explore the works of Donizetti, Mozart, and Humperdinck in this offering by opera soprano artist, Yvette Lewis. Elixir of Love and Hansel and Gretel are used to highlight some of opera’s more lighthearted moments. This interactive program has students acting, singing, and playing instruments along with the artist. Grades K-6 & 7-12 | | Our Home Planet Earth | A six-foot diameter globe of the planet earth grabs the audience’s attention as Jack Branagan demonstrates the concepts of revolution, rotation and day and night. Students are reminded that the earth is their home, and that protecting and caring for it is their responsibility. Using humor and audience participation, terms such as biodegradable, natural resources, landfill sites, and conservation are introduced and discussed. A slide presentation focuses on landfill sites and incinerators, helping the audience understand that what we throw away does not disappear. Students are then taken through the entire process of recycling, seeing the transformation from trash to useful products again. Grades K-8 This program may qualify for 100% funding by the Clean Communities Program of NJ. www.njclean.org |
