| | Above And Beyond Standardized Testing | | | Become An Author/Illustrator! Residency | Mark Stankiewicz explains and demonstrates the process of writing and illustrating a children’s book. Students begin by listening to his original story “HIC” about a boy who can’t get rid of the hiccups. Mark shows the class his mock-up of the illustrations for the book and they discuss what is involved in writing and illustrating a book. Students will write a story and illustrate it, using the techniques they learned, creating a children’s book of their own. The culmination of the residency may be a visit to younger grades where they will read their books to the children. Length of residency depends on the complexity of the project. Grades 4-8 |
