Political Cartooning

A creative outlet for the expression of social or political views, Political Cartooning has made its mark in history by raising concerns, spurring debate, fostering change, and even swaying public opinion.

In the 1870s, corrupt NY politician William M. “ Boss” Tweed, went so far as to blame Thomas Nast’s cartoons for his downfall.

Cartoonist Steve Nyman will explore the history and social issues surrounding Political Cartooning and students will create their own political caricature.

This is a hands-on, aquatic invertebrate, live creature experience with environmentalist Betty Boomer.

Paper Engineering

Expand your definition of what a book can be through the incredible transformation of a single sheet of paper

Beginning with the ancient world of cuneiform and clay tablets and traveling through history to the present our artist,  Howard Berelson, introduces students to scrolls, Japanese journals, fold-outs, accordions, and pop-ups

Many designs and projects are constructed using creative cutting and folding techniques.  Amazingly, the result could be a three-dimensional book, a card, or even a medieval castle.
