Workshops - Descriptions

PUSH Physical Theatre Workshop

Students are introduced to several movement theatre forms, the basics of presenting live theatre, character development and curriculum areas based on State Learning Standards.

PUSH tailors each workshop to classroom needs with topics such as bullying & conflict resolution, physical approaches to reading, math and science, diversity and relationships.

Participants employ elements of physical control and creative problem solving skills in this dynamic workshop.

Grades 3-12

PUSH Pins Workshop

PUSH Pins uses illustrated children’s books, physical science, weather, animals, or the concept of community as a basis for learning.

This workshop, with artists Heather and Darren Stevenson, focuses on: OBSERVATION - studying a subject; IMITATION - re-creating a demonstrated concept; and IMAGINATION - igniting personal ideas for expression.

Improvisation and choreography are explored as children develop self-awareness and confidence with movement technique, group exercises, and a short student presentation.

Each program is grade specific and, if requested, specific curriculum needs can be addressed as part of this workshop.

Grades K-6

Rhythm Connections

Sal D’Andrea brings his talent, educational background, enthusiasm and a drum for every participant to this unique workshop.

Children are encouraged to focus, listen, cooperate, create, relax, and have a whole lot of fun!

A brief discussion about different types of drums and how they make sound is followed by a jam session bursting with high energy.

Students collaborate on different rhythms, “drum” their names and get a real workout. Drumming allows them to communicate and express themselves in a non-verbal way.

This very interactive workshop builds camaraderie and fosters teamwork, as students take turns leading and following. Participants come away happy, energized and with a sense of satisfaction at being able to play their drums and follow a beat – even if they have never played before.
