| Become An Author/Illustrator! |
Work with artist Mark Stankiewicz to create a class book. Students begin by listening to his original story “HIC” about a boy who can’t get rid of the hiccups. They look at his mock-up of the illustrations for the book and discuss the process of writing and illustrating it. Mark will then give the class the beginning of a pre-written story. They will discuss some basic ideas for what the final book should look like, and each student will draw one part of the story – creating a class book. The story and illustration style will be kept very basic in this one-day program. Presentation and projects will be age appropriate. Residency available for older students Grades PreK-3
| | Cartooning & Caricature | From the tilt of an eyebrow to a dimpled cheek, the cartoonist’s perspective is unveiled. Cartoon characters are developed from initial shapes to final details.
Through caricatures, artist Steve Nyman will guide students toward insightful observation and selection of specific characteristics of their subjects, be they members of their class or the world around them.
This workshop encourages greater perception of details.
