The members of Solid Brass share their knowledge and expertise in an interactive format. The master class will include insights into articulations, tongue level positions, the use of wind power, embouchure development and various strategies in how to think while playing.

Songwriting Workshop With Alice Leon

Alice Leon combines creative writing, poetry and music in this exciting, interactive program.  Each session includes a short performance and an introduction to the fundamentals of pop songwriting including lyrics, melody and rhythm.

Students will participate in writing an original, curriculum-based or special-themed class song. Once the song is written and recorded, the artist will send a finished studio mp3 to the teacher for the class to enjoy.

Sound The Trumpets

Brass tubing bent into a spiral shape, tapered and flared in the correct places, with 3 valves that open and close – and what a royal sound it makes when in the hands of an artist!

This workshop takes an up-close look at the trumpet - an instrument that dates back to at least the 1500s and is used in almost all styles of music.

Doug Haislip will guide students through the history of the trumpet from the conch shell to the modern day piccolo, and explore sound production and sound waves using a “hose-a-phone.”

Demonstrations of various sized trumpets, with numerous musical pieces performed, make this an educational, interactive, and entertaining workshop.

Also great as a small assembly (max 100) for schools and adult audiences.
